Just What Do You Mean – The Narrow Gate? – by Greg Albrecht
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.—Matthew 7:13-14
This passage is often preached from the perspective of how hard it is to obey God and keep his laws—how hard it is to "make the grade" to get into heaven—how relatively few souls will be counted worthy of heaven while the broad majority will end up in hell.
Matthew 7:13-14 is one of those passages that is regularly preached to mean something altogether different than the meaning that God intends. In fact, ...
Reflections Along the Jesus Way
May 21, 2023 - Quote for the Day:
“I had a conversation with a friend about God’s love – a part of our discussion went something like this:
You know, God really does like you. He is fond of you. He wants to get to know you and he wants you to come to know him as you never have before. Young people would say that God wants to ‘hang out with you.’
Well, yes, I know that God loves us, the Bible says he does, and I guess because he inspired those words in the Bible God has to love us. He said it, he committed himself to it, he signed the contract, so he has to love us.
So you think God is stuck? He ...

Ground Zero of Our Faith – by Greg Albrecht
These first century A.D. Christ-followers lived in a port city, surrounded by promiscuity and permissiveness. They seemed anything but one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28) as they debated and endlessly argued some rather minor, inconsequential issues while losing sight of the BIG PICTURE altogether. Some appeared proud of tolerating incestuous sexual sin within their fellowship.
The Apostle Paul wrote two letters to this “wild bunch” of Christians in Corinth, addressing many specific problems and issues while relentlessly insisting on the BIG PICTURE of the cross of Christ. At the beginning of his first letter to the Corinthians, ...

May 18, 2023 - Quote for the Day:
“It is not easy to accept God’s grace. Accepting Jesus Christ is itself a repudiation of our world and its religion. Accepting God’s grace is humbling, and leads to deep repentance as we realize, on the one hand, our inadequacy, and on the other, God’s perfect love.”

May 16, 2023 - Quote for the Day:
“God’s grace and legalistic religion are not two equally inadequate spiritual extremes. Grace is the answer for legalism. There are times and places when grace is abused, when it is misunderstood and when it becomes an excuse for ‘do-as-you-please-ism’ – but abuses of God’s grace do not define or nullify it. Misunderstandings of God’s grace do not mean it is permissive. God’s grace is anything but. Legalism, on the other hand, is a virus that can destroy hope, joy and new life in Christ.”

Retribution… Or Restoration…?
God is concerned with relationship, expressed as restoration, redemption and reconciliation; rather than religion, which is so often defined as retribution, rules, revenge, and retaliation.

He Can’t Stop Loving You – by Greg Albrecht
By Greg Albrecht—
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”—John 11:25
Ray Charles is one of my favorite blues singers of all time. The movie about his life, produced several years ago, won several Academy Awards, and was simply titled “Ray.”
Human suffering has given birth to much of our music, poetry, literature and art. The tragedies and the traumas of human relationships were the fertile soil from which many of the story lines and lyrics of Ray Charles’ music grew.

Reflections Along the Jesus Way
May 14, 2023 - Quote for the Day:
“I do not believe eternal destiny is ‘locked in’ at death. Nothing in Scripture would lead us to assume this, but of course much dogma within Christendom depends upon it. Many believe that their attempts to proclaim the gospel and ‘save’ people are the primary if not the only way God uses to channel his grace and to illuminate the minds of those whose hearts and minds are darkened. I say to that – if eternal destiny depends on religion, then God is not God!”

Stretch Marks of a Mother’s Love – Greg Albrecht
The stages of motherhood, as seen from the eyes of her child:
Age 4: My mommy can do anything.
Age 8: My mommy knows a lot.
Age 14: My mom doesn’t know as much as she thinks she does.
Age 18: My mother is hopelessly old fashioned—she’s way out-of date.
Age 30: Before I make a big decision, I’m going to call my mom.
Age 55: She’s gone now. I wonder what my mother would have done when she had this decision to make.
Age 70: She’s been gone for a long time now. How I wish I could talk with my mom again and tell her how much I loved and appreciated her.
Englishman John Wesley, one of the great patriarchs of the ...

May 11, 2023 - Quote for the Day:
“A Pentecostal Christian was once invited by his friend to attend a staid Presbyterian church, where the services resembled a quiet library. The Pentecostal man was used to exuberant services of his church, which resembled an enthusiastic crowd at a basketball game. When the Presbyterian pastor made a particularly inspiring point in his sermon, the Pentecostal man yelled out ‘Praise the Lord.’
This passion troubled the solemn Presbyterian congregants. When the high-spirited visitor continued to voice his agreement with compelling statements made from the pulpit by yelling out ‘A-men’ ...

One In Christ Jesus – by Greg Albrecht
By Greg Albrecht—
There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.—Galatians 3:28
What exactly is a mother? What is her job description? What does a mother do? There's a story about a man who came home from a long day at work—when he drove into his driveway he saw his three children, still in their pajamas, covered from head to toe in mud, fighting and screaming.
He was just too exhausted to deal with it, so he walked right past his kids, through the front door, into a house that was in upheaval. Chaos reigned supreme.
The TV was blaring, furniture had been knocked over, dishes were piled ...

May 9, 2023 - Quote for the Day:
“Religious zealots who populate Christ-less religion, to use the words of a man named Reinhold Niebuhr, spend much of their time focused on the ‘temperature of hell and the furniture of heaven.’ They can think of little else than the grand rewards God will lavish on them because of their hard work – and the eternal torture to which they presume he will subject others, who fail to meet their religious standards.”
