The Romans had many ways they executed criminals, from decapitation to being eaten by animals in the arena before bloodthirsty mobs – but crucifixion was the worst of the worst. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.—1 Peter 1:3-4

"Christ is Risen!"
In the aftermath of Easter celebrations across the globe, the phrase "Christ is risen!" has been expressed with enthusiasm, perhaps 100s of millions of times by Jesus' followers of innumerable languages, nations and cultures.
I was particularly struck by an image I saw here on Instagram... the wooden candlestand to the right, carved by an artisan in Malawi, Africa.
The main figure is the risen Christ, and his body is comprised of people ("the Body of Christ") united with Christ in his death and raised with him in his resurrection. Above them, Christ holds up the “celestial village” (the kingdom of God).

For our readers' sake, let's briefly define "soul sleep."Soul sleep is the belief that when Christians (specifically) die, the soul enters a state of unconscious rest until the final resurrection.

The biblical warrant for this view is that Scripture (including Jesus) does refer to those who've died (bodily death) as "asleep." Jesus says of Jairus' daughter, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The next time you are in the checkout line at the grocery store imagine turning to the person next to you and joyfully announcing “Christ is risen!” Can you picture the bewildered expressions of your fellow shoppers?
Imagine you are taking a walk and when someone passes by you greet them by saying, “Christ is risen!” Some of those people would ignore you, and perhaps walk a little faster to put more distance between them and you.
