Reflections Along the Jesus Way

July 25, 2023 - Quote for the Day: “The dressing room door opens, and Karen walks out. She is just as beautiful as she was when I waited for her to walk down the aisle on a summer day in England just over 41 years ago. But, now, the summer of 2010, she is wearing a hospital-provided blue smock.  As our eyes meet, the technicians say they are ready. We walk through a massive, one-foot-thick steel door into the radiation chamber. It’s a large room, about the size of a handball or squash court, dominated by the overwhelming presence of a Trilogy Linear Accelerator. The Trilogy is a state-of-the-art machine used by radiation oncolog...

You Are Unsnatchable!

We consider the bold, audacious words of Jesus as he said, "No one will snatch them (his sheep) out of my hand." https://www.ptm.org/mp3/FreeDwnld/RCWR484.mp3

Last Words

The Walking Dead and the Unclean – Greg Albrecht

While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy.  When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”  Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man.  “I am willing,” he said.  “Be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him (Luke 5:12-13, my emphasis).  During the first century A.D. leprosy was a generic term for a variety of disfiguring and fatal skin diseases.  Lepers were forbidden to be around others.  They were forbidden to enter cities.  They could not earn a living and had to ...

What Role Does God Have in Tempting Us? – Greg Albrecht

Question: I have two comments/queries about the Lord’s Prayer.  In Matthew 6::7 it states that "gentiles" prayed. Would that have been to "greek” gods? My understanding is this would mean Pharisees way of self promotion. Also Matthew 6:13 would appear to suggest that God has the option of "leading us to or into temptation" similar to Matthew 4:1 where Jesus was led to be tempted. Your consideration and insight would be appreciated. Response: Matthew 6:7 speaks of vain repetitions in prayer, and then has Jesus saying that the “heathen” (Authorized King James and others) or the “pagans” (New International Version) or ...

Reflections Along the Jesus Way

July 23, 2023 - Quote for the Day: “Jesus threw huge parties when people came to listen to him teach and preach.  On several occasions those who turned out to hear Jesus became hungry.  So Jesus created, with a few fish and loaves of bread, a huge picnic for thousands of people (John 6:1-15).  And of course, we read in the book of Revelation about the wedding supper of the Lamb, the splendid celebration thrown by the groom for his bride (Revelation 19:5-9). …I believe that life lived in the presence of God is pure joy, not frugal obligation, not dour requirements, but joy without end.  This is not to say we don’t ...

Eating and Drinking

Religious professionals accused Jesus and his disciples of "eating and drinking." Why did they take exception with Jesus, who was often involved in banquets and parties, enjoying life? https://www.ptm.org/mp3/FreeDwnld/RCWR481.mp3

Love or Justice? – by Greg Albrecht

Love or Justice? The discussion of eternal torment and the fate of the "unsaved" is often framed, by the law and order crowd, as a matter of God's love or his justice. Those who are intent on relegating those who, to their knowledge and satisfaction, have never heard or accepted their version of Christianity to eternal torture, often characterize those, like myself, who primarily look for answers based on God's love and grace, as soft-headed, soft-hearted and weak.   So which is it—love or justice? Is God primarily a God of love or a God of justice? Here's what I see as the fundamental flaw in real, he-man, tough-as-...

Reflections Along the Jesus Way

July 20, 2023 - Quote for the Day: “Legalism is the ‘foundation’ of spiritual cosmetics.  It compels us to put on an act to impress others who are themselves putting on an act to impress us.  The act we put on may be good – the actions and behaviors may be good things to do, but we are doing them for the wrong reasons – and in the process we become spiritual imposters.” Originally published in: Bad News Religion ------------------------------------- Help Us Help Others - Give Now

Q&R with Greg Albrecht – “Should we boycott the wedding?”

Recently I was asked to give my opinion about a married man, in the process of divorcing his wife, while dating a younger, unmarried woman. My immediate thought was the response of Jesus when he was asked by someone to get involved in a family about an inheritance. "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?" (Luke 12:14). However, remembering that Jesus used the question as a way to discuss some of the more important spiritual issues surrounding it (see "The Parable of the Rich Fool"—Luke 12:15-21), I tried to respond in a similar way. The person who asked me the question said that the still-married man was "put under church ...

Reflections Along the Jesus Way

July 18, 2023 - Quote for the Day: “Grace is like water and rain, but it is also like the wind.  We have no idea where wind comes from but there is no doubt that wind is also a metaphor of God’s grace – The wind blows wherever it pleases.  You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.  So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit (John 3:8)…The grace of God is like pollen carried by the wind, spreading life.  The grace of God is like the wind filling our sails.”  Originally published in: Wonders of His Grace ------------------------------------- Help Us Help Others ...

The Power of Touch

In Christ, God not only touched our world, he came to be part of it, becoming one of us. Jesus Christ longs to touch our hearts and souls with his life transforming touch. No one is considered untouchable by Jesus. https://www.ptm.org/mp3/FreeDwnld/RCWR478.mp3

Love or War – Peace or Fear?

Many believe that the opposite of love is hate, but fear is the real opposing force, for it drives and motivates hatred and war and everything that stands against Jesus Christ. https://www.ptm.org/mp3/FreeDwnld/RCWR474.mp3

Religious Fanaticism – by Greg Albrecht

Justine Gubar, a producer at ESPN (the television sports channel), researched and studied the reasons behind violent celebrations and protests by fans whose teams either win or lose a sporting event. While reading a summary of her book “Fanaticus,” I could not help but see the many parallels that exist between the rioting generated by sports fans and the death and mayhem inflicted by fans of religion on those who are on the opposing “team.”       Celebrations of victories and protests of defeats resulting in violence are often instigated by fans whose identity and purpose in life is almost entirely ...

Reflections Along the Jesus Way

July 16, 2023 - Quote for the Day: “There’s an old story about the latest group of new arrivals in heaven who were huddled together in front of the pearly gates, waiting for St. Peter to greet them and welcome them inside. A few adventurous ones climbed up on the wrought iron fence, peering through, trying to see what heaven was really like. Suddenly, those who were looking through the fence saw someone who they all remembered as a great sinner on earth. The new arrivals were scandalized. One person demanded, ‘What’s he doing here?’ Another new arrival said, ‘After all I went through to get here and after all my hard work, now ...

Jesus is Here – Not Over There!

Reflections Along the Jesus Way

July 13, 2023 - Quote for the Day: “The Bible does not guarantee that our lives in this flesh will consist of us skipping through some idyllic park, ice cream cones in hand. God’s plan for us is not centered on the here and now. This life is not all there is. There is more to life than what we see and understand and experience. God’s plan is primarily concerned with eternity, not the earthly days and daze of our lives.”  Originally published in: Between Religious Rocks and Life’s Hard Places ------------------------------------- Help Us Help Others - Give Now
