Q & R – Greg Albrecht – “How do you define sin?”
Question:
I am seeking to join a church that promotes Christianity w/o the religion, but they define sin as "missing the mark". Isn't that a religious definition of sin? I am moved to not join this church because of that, however, no brick and mortar church is perfect. What do you think, briefly?
Response:
I would say that defining sin as “missing the mark” is narrow and legalistic. Sin is bigger than failing to measure up to a standard - it includes that, of course, but sin is our nature - for humans, sin is part of our spiritual environment, just as air is to our physical environment. Perhaps sin is a bit like gravity - a spiritual law (see ...
Q & R – Greg Albrecht – Why does Jesus mention the Sabbath?
Question
Hello Greg,
I worshipped with you and many others on CWRa – your message was "SO THAT ... OR BECAUSE?" As a side note, I am wondering why Jesus referred to "the Sabbath" in Matthew 24:20? Hebrews 4 seems to indicate no specific day for "Sabbath-rest" now.
Praying for and supporting PTM/CWR.
Response
Great to hear you joined us for the message. The question to which you refer, in Matthew 24:20: “Pray that your flight will not place in the winter or on the Sabbath.”
Matthew 24 is the Olivet Prophecy – some believe many of Jesus’ warnings/predictions are yet to take place. I believe, based in large part on vs. 34, “this ...

November 5, 2023 - Quote for the Day:
“God loves us and invites us to accept and believe in Jesus, that we might be delivered from religious snobbery and pride, hatred, bigotry, murder, war, lust, greed and self-centeredness of every size, shape and description. God loves everyone and invited all of us to be delivered from racism, including racists who don’t hesitate to condemn and denounce all who don’t agree with them as racists… Sadly, the human condition seems to include belittling and demeaning others, simply because they are different. It seems natural and increasingly common today for people to despise those who are not ...

November 2, 2023 - Quote for the Day:
“We cannot mow God’s lawn and then expect him to pay us. We cannot rake the leaves in his backyard, we can’t dust or clean heaven, or make him a wonderful dinner. When we read and understand God’s revelation, the gospel of Jesus Christ, we know that our relationship with God is not based on human interactions. But we think, given the way our world works, that if we do things for him then he will be happier with us than he otherwise would have been.”

Thanking God for the Riches of His Grace – by Greg Albrecht
Friend and Partner Letter for November 2023:
Teddy, only eight years old, was dying in the hospital of a rare blood disease. He was admitted two weeks before in critical condition, and his health had steadily gone downhill since then. One or both of his parents had been at his bedside for these two weeks, and then yesterday his doctors told them it seemed like Teddy’s condition had stabilized and he might have 4-6 weeks to live.
Teddy’s mother and father felt they could both go home for a day and take care of some pressing matters, and then return the next day. But during the day when his parents were gone, Teddy’s health ...

October 31, 2023 - Quote for the Day:
“I am a critic of religious legalism, but more importantly I am a deeply devoted Christian. I am also a recovering legalist, and I know the deadly power of religious legalism. I know that Christ set me free from its bondage. I know that I was blind but now I see (John 9:25). I must report what I see and who healed and rescued me, whether modern religious Pharisees like the implications of my story or not.
Grace helped me see that it is a travesty and a perversion of the gospel of Jesus Christ to be calling oneself a Christian while insisting that the work of salvation is ...

Caught in the Crossfire: A Palestinian Christian from Bethlehem.
In a dark world of religious and ethnic conflict between Jew and Muslim, Dr. Awad and Bethlehem Bible College (serving Palestinian Christians) provide a shining light of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In yet another long line of “breaking news” events, the world once again finds itself invited to take sides in one of two political camps. Seemingly either most identify as pro-Palestinian (and some, amazingly to me at least, even pro-Hamas) or pro-Israel.&nb...

October 29, 2023 - Quote for the Day:
“… salvation is not BY works, but FOR works. God saves and rescues and re-births us, Christ in us, the hope of glory, works in our lives, producing in and through us the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Only God can create a tree. And the only reason a tree brings forth fruit is that God created the tree and vibrant systems within the tree that enable fruit-bearing. No stick of wood can plant itself in the ground, and by rigorous effort, expect fruit to be borne on its branches. Jesus said, ‘I am the vine, you are the branches… without me, you can do nothing (John 15:5).”

October 26, 2023 - Quote for the Day
“In our world, whether it’s the workplace or the church, the relationship others are willing to have with you is normally based on a bottom line. The relationship you have with a bank is based on the money you have on deposit. If your checkbook doesn’t balance, you are an undesirable. You must maintain a minimum balance. In the spiritual realm, many are led to believe that if they don’t show up at church often enough the religious bankers will start adding service charges to their account – or just show them the door that supposedly leads directly to eternal torture in hell. The kingdom ...

Grace Without Reservations – by Greg Albrecht
And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, then grace would no longer be grace.—Romans 11:6
Have you ever had an altercation, a conflict or misunderstanding with your wife or husband, adult child or a good friend and wondered how in the world you could patch things up? We've all been there, haven't we? Perhaps we are "there" right now.
Let's suppose (and it's a safe supposition, isn't it?) that the mess we are thinking about is a mess that is our fault. We are to blame. After all, at some point in our lives, we have all been in the wrong, haven't we? At some point in our lives we have all been the major factor or cause behind a ...
